Energy & Resource Efficiency

Reducing emissions and increasing energy efficiency are key factors in the fight against climate change. We do this in all areas – at our own sites, in production, across our supply chains and in distribution.

When it comes to selecting the materials for manufacturing our medicinal products and their packaging, we are very mindful of making sure that resources are used as responsibly as possible.

A strong foundation for transparency and efficiency

01 | ISO 50001 Certificate

02 | CO2e – Footprint

iso 50001 Zertifizierung Losan Pharma

ISO 50001 Certification

ISO 50001 is an international standard for energy management systems. It provides organisations with a structured framework to improve energy efficiency, reduce energy costs, and lower CO₂ emissions.

Losan Pharma has been ISO 50001 certified for Energy Management Systems since 2015. The certification is regularly reviewed and renewed by an external auditor.
Our most recent certificate can be found in the Download Centre.

CO2e – Footprint

Sustainable business practices and a responsible approach to managing our climate impact are important to us. Together as the Falk Group, we calculate our Corporate Carbon Footprint (CO2e-balance according to the Greenhouse Gas Protocol). This forms the basis for identifying potential reductions in our CO2e-emissions.

co2_losan_pharma_2025

* CO2 equivalents (CO2e) are a unit of measurement that combines seven greenhouse gases, including carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4) and nitrous oxide (N2O).
To allow comparison, the gases are expressed as CO2 equivalents (CO2e). For instance, 1 kilogram of methane equals 28 kilograms of CO2e, because it produces 28 times the greenhouse effect.

Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency

PV Anlagen Losan Pharma

Green Electricity from PV Systems

Wherever possible, we use the roofs of our sites to generate solar electricity. In 2025, the amount produced was equivalent to the annual consumption of around 18 four-person households in Germany.

Approximately 78% of this energy was used directly on-site, which represents a small but tangible contribution to climate protection.

Based on the average annual electricity consumption of a four-person household in Germany, approximately 4,085 kWh (as of July 2021, source: BDEW).

Sustainable Construction

Our new administration building, which was completed in 2023, meets the KfW 40 standard and uses only 40 % of the energy typically used by a new building. It is connected to the TREA (Eschbach Technical Recycling Facility) regional district heating network and can take advantage of locally generated heat with short distribution routes and minimal losses. We apply the same high-efficiency standards to our other buildings to reduce energy use and lower CO₂e emissions wherever possible.

Contribution to Biodiversity

At our sites in Eschbach and Neuenburg, we have insect hotels and flowering plants that create a paradise for bees, butterflies and many other insects. Sustainability begins with small steps.

Our team also takes part in other initiatives that put nature first, such as Clean-Up Day or our tree-planting campaign, which show how sustainability can be practised through personal commitment.

Sustainable Mobility

01 | Bike-Sharing Scheme

02 | STADTRADELN Cycling Campaign

Bike-Sharing Scheme

At Losan Pharma, we support initiatives that promote environmentally friendly mobility in the Breisgau Business Park. The Frelo bike-sharing station at our Eschbach site provides a climate-friendly form of transport that is good for people’s health.

STADTRADELN Cycling Campaign

By taking part in STADTRADELN, a nationwide cycling campaign that encourages people to use their bikes more often, we raise awareness of sustainable mobility and encourage our employees at our Neuenburg am Rhein site to choose more climate-friendly ways of getting around.

Health – Safety – Environment

Workplace safety, health, and environmental protection form the fundamental principles of our business activities.

Some examples:

  • Waste generated company-wide is sorted into separate fractions, collected, and properly disposed of or sent for recycling.
  • Heat from ventilation systems is recovered
  • Exhaust air from production is treated by regenerative thermal oxidation to remove organic solvent vapours.
